More Cheat Codes to Improve Your Life

28 May

In addition to my earlier post, here are even more real-life cheat codes you can use for those daily annoyances:

  1. Walk on the sides of stairs to avoid/reduce creaks.
  2. Remove splinter by dipping the body part in some Elmer’s glue. Let it dry, remove glue together with splinter.
  3. Pour beer on the lawn. Fermented sugars make great fertilizer.
  4. Pick up broken pieces of glass with pieces of bread – the consistency and texture picks up even the smallest shard.
  5. Lift yourself a little off the toilet if noise is a concern.
  6. Talk to everyone like you would your best mate, and smile.
  7. If you have crushing chest pain, call 911 first. Then chew some aspirin.
  8. Don’t announce that you are having a kid till the second trimester.
  9. To get to tech support quickly with an ISP, choose the option for becoming a new customer. Then ask to be transferred to tech support.
  10. Don’t say anything. Wait for your lawyer.
  11. Secretaries, tech support and janitors are the true power in office buildings.
  12. Contest a parking ticket in less than an hour since it was administered by calling the number on the ticket. Buy a bottle of water – keep the receipt. Claim your car overheated, and you parked where you did out of necessity. When you submit your formal petition via mail, include the receipt for the water that you bought, and the ticket will be waived.

Cheat Codes to Improve Your Life

26 May

Here are some things you can do to rid yourself of the annoyances in life and improve its overall quality:

  1. Stop. Stop. Play:
Skip advertisements/trailers in DVDs and go straight to the movie.
  2. Dial 0 in automated phone menu to reach operator directly:
Saying “representative” in a voice-automated menu works similarly. Also, check out: gethuman.com
  3. Keep a spare car key duct-taped under your car:
Just find an out-of-sight spot that doesn’t get hot, and make sure to secure it properly.
  4. Ride a bicycle in the summertime:
It will save you money on gas, parking, medical bills, and gym memberships.
  5. Skip voicemail by pressing 1, *, or #:
It is called the 1-star-pound technique, and it works for all cell carriers.
  6. Use plastic bag over your magnetic strip if credit card doesn’t read:
You can also apply a piece of cellophane tape for a permanent fix.
  7. Finish your shower with cold water:
This will wake you up and get blood flowing, as well as closes your pores against dirt and bacteria.
  8. Use Store credit cards and pay them off instantly:
Store credit cards usually have a 20% discount on purchases, such as Target, JCP, Macy’s etc.
  9. Google for discounts before purchasing online:
Google for the promo codes. You can get anything from free shipping to 25% off the purchase.
  10. Turn it off, unplug, then on again:
Simple as can be – works for most electronics. Unplug for 10 seconds to let capacitors discharge.
  11. Buy things out of season:
This can save you money, unless its food.

Android OS 2.2 FroYo – Leaked Features

24 May

The next firmware update for the Android Operating System is about to hit the airwaves soon. Rumours have been circulating for months, and fans of Android have been salivating over each tidbit of leaked information they can get their hands on. As the Google I/O approaches close, let’s look at the rumors and leaks we have accumulated since the last official update.

Just-in-time Compilation

Perhaps the most significant update to be unveiled will be the JIT implementation in the stock ROM. What does it do? It allows for code to be understood and executed easily by the phone as-it-happens. Until now, Android has used interpreted or static (ahead-of-time) compilation, but JIT is rumoured to speed up the operation of the phone by as much as 450% ! That’s something worth being excited about!

Flash 10.1

Steve Jobs, of Apple Inc., has publicly made clear recently his distaste for Adobe’s web-content app – Flash. Granted, Flash has earned a lot of bad rep for its misuse and bulky behind-the-scene coding. However, a modern browser unable to run Flash is unheard of – that is due to the extensive use of Flash everywhere on the internet. In fact, some websites are coded entirely in Flash, as well as video-players which are all the rage now. For the Android OS to have Flash and for iPhone to miss out could be a huge blow to Apple and its iPhone in the long run.

USB Tethering

Carriers now give out unlimited data plans through 3G networks for smartphones. Sadly, it is not used much – but what if you could somehow ‘tether’ your phone to a laptop or a netbook and use the internet on it instead? That is what USB tethering does – connect the phone to your computer/laptop through the supplied data-cable and access the internet through a larger screen and a full keyboard!

Wireless Hotspot

What if you are traveling and you forgot to bring your data cable – no tethering, no file-transfer to your computer! That is where this next feature comes in. Wireless Hotspot will allow your phone to act as a wireless-router, broadcasting your 3G network’s internet as an accessible wireless-access-point, allowing you to connect multiple devices to it and use the internet through it! Not to mention, if you download an application such as SWIFTP, you can set up an FTP Server on your device and wirelessly transfer files back and forth without a data cable!

Applications Installed to SD Card

With internal phone storage limited, many users have to pick and choose between which applications they want to keep, but no longer! This functionality of moving installed applications was only available to rooted users using a custom ROM, but now Google is making it official! Now you can install as many applications as you desire, limited only by the storage space of your SD card – which goes up to 32 GB!
